Urban Resources

The flow of water, energy, and raw materials is necessary to the functioning of a city or a production district and should be considered within sustainable and circular economy policies. For instance, the city must consider the recovery and reuse of water, the use of energy from renewable sources, or the enhancement of by-products and sustainable materials.

The public administration must not only consider qualitative, performance and economic parameters but it has to take into account aspects of sustainability of the resources used. The instrument of green procurement and “circular” sustainable procurement can contribute in this way to a more responsible use of resources.

At the district and citizenship level, incentives and awareness raising are essential to increasing demand for the use of more sustainable resources.
